Michael Mello, MD, MPH
Biography
Dr. Mello is Director of the Injury Prevention Center at Rhode Island Hospital/ Hasbro Children’s Hospital and a practicing board certified emergency medicine physician with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is also Professor of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University and past national president of the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research, and national president of Injury Free Coalition for Kids.
His research has focused on prevention of unintentional injury and behavioral modifications to reduce injury occurrence and has been supported by CDC, NIH, and several foundations including Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
As Director of the Injury Prevention Center at Rhode Island Hospital, he has been active in creating partnerships with state health departments, community groups, and other health providers to increase their attention to injury and violence prevention and has established several injury prevention community programs in the region.
Dr. Mello has overall responsibility for the Master degree program with a focus on the thesis research project completion for students in Years 3 and 4.
